Misty River Cabins & RV Resort will host the second annual benefit campout for:
Second Harvest Food Bank of East TN
Saturday April 10th, 2010
Camping fees will be a donation of $20.00 per site with all of the proceeds going to Second Harvest. (If you would like to donate more than the $20.00, that would be Great!) We will also be collecting cans of food, so please bring some canned goods to donate to Second Harvest. Call 865-981-4300 to reserve your site.
As you know Second Harvest works hard in our area to help a lot of people. Second Harvest distributes food to roughly 160,000 hungry people every month through a network of Partner Agencies throughout East Tennessee. Agencies are non-profit organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry and include church pantries, shelters, group homes, local kitchens, after-school program sites, rehabilitation centers and many others. Second Harvest is audited annually and spends 3% of our budget on administrative expenses, 4% on fundraising and 93% on operating hunger-relief programs.
Second Harvest can provide 3 nutritious meals with every $1 donation.

Vintage Camper Spring Rally in the Smokies 2010
This will be our third vintage rally at Misty River. The vintage Rallies are one of the most fun things we host at the campground. Its like a tailgate party all weekend long! You will never meet a more fun loving and friendly group of campers than the ones who attend this event. This event will fill up fast, so book your site early.
The Vintage Rally in the Smokies is open to anyone who likes Vintage Campers, Can Hams, Tear Drops and all the other great cool campers that are out there. You do know that one day even your new RV will become a vintage camper. So come join in the fun!
We had a bagpiper come into the campground last week. Over the years John has play many gigs. Recently he was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Smoky Mountain back-country.
As he was not familiar with the mountains around here, he got lost; and being a typical man John didn't stop for directions. He finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. John said he felt badly and apologized to the men for being late.
John then went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. John didn't know what else to do, so he started to play. The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. He played his heart and soul out for this man with no family and friends. He played like never played before for this homeless man. And as John played 'Amazing Grace,' the workers began to weep. They wept, he wept, and they all wept together.
When John finished packing up his bagpipes and started for the car, though his head hung low, his heart was full.
As John was opening the door to his car, he heard one of the worker say, man, I never seen nothing like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."
See you under the Stars,

May 14-16 Troutfest
Troutfest is a Fly Fishing Exposition and Fundraiser held in Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is a Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited sponsored fundraiser and festival. Townsend and Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers you the most beautiful place on earth to fly fish for trout.
This year we have seen a lot of RVs with blown tires come into the park.
Now that winter has arrived and you are not using your RV as much, its the time to check your tires and make sure you have good rubber on your RV before the spring camping season gets here.
